The anticipated renovation of some areas of Brock Hall’s 2nd floor is about to begin and we want to let you in on some of the highlights of what’s planned.

The overall design of the space

The new space will be bright, open, and flexible with a separate, well-planned kitchen featuring a seating area, coffee bar, 2 microwaves, 2 fridges and a dishwasher.

There will also be whiteboards, movable scrum tables, and ergonomic and social seating areas to encourage opportunities to connect and collaborate with colleagues.

For more structured meetings, Room 2001 will be outfitted with new video conferencing capabilities. We’ll also have 8 additional meeting rooms for 3-6 people. One of the larger rooms will have a video screen.

Furniture selection is still underway, with new desks, new chairs, ergonomic enhancements, and personal lockers. Towards the end of March, we expect to be able to share more information about the furnishings.

FAQs

Q:  What’s the timeline and plan for the renovations?
A:  We’re expecting to move temporarily to the West Mall Annex, across from Geography, by the end of April. Construction in Brock Hall is scheduled to begin in early May and finish by the end of August.

Q: Who will be making the move to West Mall Annex?
A: All of the Brock Hall SASI team, Senate and Curriculum Services, and members of RegExec who currently sit in the area to be renovated will move to the West Mall Annex.

The Admissions team will be staying in their area during the renovations. We will work with our architects and construction team to mitigate disruptions. Alternate entrances, exits, and kitchen space will be coordinated.

Q: Who determines the seating plan?
A: A general seating plan will be determined based on clustering teams. The final assignment of desks has not yet been completed. The new space will have a combination of touch down and assigned space.
