Rip.Mix.Feed – 21st Century Literacy

I was panicking about this task to be honest.  I didn’t know what I wanted to do and I didn’t know how I wanted to do it.  That never happens for me!  So I decided to just have fun with it and experiment with a platform I have been meaning to try.

Throughout the course, I have really been drawn to the ideas around how what it means to literate has changed and how this has changed our current views on literacy (re: digital literacy, not just print literacy, etc.).  I have chosen to do my final project on this topic as well, in some way shape or form.  Also, I have been wanting to mess around with Glogster.  My Rip.Mix.Feed product is quite literally that!

I went through some of my notes to generate some of the keywords I believe represent 21st century literacy.  I chose the light bulb in the center of the Glog because I believe literacy is centered around ideas – light bulb moments.  I found an image on Flickr that I believe encompasses many of the ideas I was trying to put forward.  However it was missing one key aspect; learning in authentic real world environments.  So I added the outline and text to the picture so that the learning is happening within that context.

My Glog can be found here: http://allisongreig.edu.glogster.com/ripmixfeed/

  1. Hi Allison,
What a nice summary of the ideas of the course. I’ve found the progression of literacy to be extremely interesting. I’d never heard of Glog but it is a pretty interesting site. Did you find it easy to use?

    • I was so surprised at how easy it was to use! I started with the free trial but I am seriously considering upgrading. I really enjoyed it!
