Computational Poetics – MDST 310

The Computational Poetics exhibition explores the impact of computer technology on systems of representation and the question of meaning in the interdisciplinary field of fine and performing arts. The artists engage with digital technologies to answer questions as to what kind of images we create using these creative means? What form do these images take? What are their philosophical influences, formal characteristics and aesthetic qualities? The potentials for the evolution of computer-based composition strategies and tools for multimedia image making continue to challenge the contemporary artist. The works in this exhibition are created with generative and interactive software applications regarding simulations, visualizations, sonifications, and image-manipulation. Techniques and tools for software engineering and creative AI are demonstrated through state-of-the-art creative code-based works that use them. These techniques along with their practical concerns integrate with concepts drawn upon from humanities and critical theory literature to develop research and creation practice in the perspective of art, science and technology.
