Behind the Door – Huiyu Chen
A thesis exhibition by Huiyu Chen, who is an MFA candidate in Visual Arts.
Behind the Door explores the threshold between the inner self and the external world—a space of vulnerability, rediscovery, and transformation. My work reflects the landscape of being, the continuous dialogue between what is seen and unseen, conscious and unconscious, illusion and reality.
This body of work traces my journey of reconnecting with the world through creative practice. When words and logic could not restore my sense of being, painting became a way to reconnect—an act of inquiry that allowed something unknown within me to take form. Each gesture and color became a quiet conversation between the psyche and the world, guiding me toward wholeness.
Influenced by Jungian psychology and Eastern spiritual philosophy, my practice views creation as a process of transformation—a bridge where science and spirit, analysis and intuition meet. The works invite viewers to pause and reflect on their own inner landscape, to embrace the uncertainty of the unknown, and to find meaning within the unfolding space.
Ultimately, Behind the door is an invitation to step inward—to explore, to lose oneself, and to rediscover connection through the act of creation.
