The Faculty of Land and Food Systems is hiring Peer-Assisted Study Session (PASS) Leaders to lead study sessions for students in Forestry and Land & Food Systems as part of our PASS Program. PASS is offered for courses that are historically difficult for students – the courses we will be offering PASS sessions for next year are:

  • Term 1: CHEM 121 (when you took it, it may have been Chem 120), MATH 102, MATH 190, MATH 180
  • Term 2: BIOL 121, APBI 200, MATH 103

Student Leaders will need to have taken at least 1 of the courses listed from each term to be eligible for this position and be residing in Canada from Sept. 2021 – Apr 2022.

We are recruiting 2 PASS leaders to deliver small study sessions; this is a paid position and you would be working with 3 other leaders –one more from LFS and 2 from Forestry.

Job Description

This is a short term contract to support a community education project undertaken by the Artist in Residence (AIR) at UBC Botanical Garden. The project aims to develop and distribute unique educational materials and resources to enable the uptake of zero-waste propagation methods among gardeners on UBC’s Vancouver campus.

Under supervision by the project lead/AIR, the student will help to develop preliminary networking resources to enable campus gardeners to connect with one another and exchange plant materials. This will involve a variety of activities across the full length of the project: from qualitative data analysis to platform research, provision of recommendations and evaluation support.

Specific Duties:

  •    Perform qualitative content analysis on two sets of survey results (beginning and end of the project’s educational activities)
  • Summarize findings in written form for use in reports
  • Research existing group networking platforms and, based on analysis of survey data, prepare a report highlighting a) those platforms most appropriate to the goals of the project and needs of participants in the short term; b) limitations of existing platforms in relation to the same, and the functions and characteristics that a tool tailored to the communities in question would ideally fulfil
  • Track and perform rudimentary analysis of Instagram posts and map by location
  • Assist with preparation of final project report

Job Opportunity: Wildlife Collision Prevention Program Communications Coordinator

The Wildlife Collision Prevention Program (WCPP), managed by the BC Conservation Foundation, strives to make BC highways safer for both people and wildlife through public awareness, driver education and collaboration with researchers, government and industry stakeholders.

The WCPP Communications Coordinator will assist the WCPP Program Coordinator in delivering and developing communication aspects of the program, and ensuring information presented to the public is science and/or traditional ecological knowledge based. Communication aspects may include: content creation for and management of social media pages; website content updates; brochure design and distribution; radio and print media ads; public awareness campaign content and planning.

Job Opportunity: Practicum Program Assistant at the UBC Farm

The UBC Farm Practicum Work-Learn will support the UBC Farm team in the development and delivery of the UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture.
