Exciting animal welfare opportunity for undergraduate students!

Would you like the chance to represent UBC and learn more about animal welfare issues?

We are forming a UBC team to participate in the annual Intercollegiate Animal Welfare Judging Competition, this year to be held in November at Michigan State University. We are looking for undergrads who are passionate about animal welfare to become part of this team!

You can do this just for fun, or as a directed studies course. Either way, it’s a great way to immerse yourself in the world of animal welfare, develop communication and critical thinking skills, and meet people working in the field.

This is a great opportunity for students who have taken APBI 314 and/or 315, or have relevant background experience with animal welfare and management.

If you’re interested in participating, come to our information meeting on:

Monday, September 8 at 5:00pm in Macmillan Rm. 180.

In the meantime, for more information, check out last year’s Animal Welfare Judging & Assessment Contest website, or contact Beth Ventura or Becky Meagher.

2014/15 LFS Tri-Mentoring applications now open! Deadline Sept 22

Apply now to be a part of the 2014-15 LFS Tri-Mentoring program!

This program creates networking opportunities through “triads” that consist of a junior student, a senior student and an industry professional, all in the same field of interest. Students can engage with each other and those working in the industry to learn valuable skills while benefiting from the advice from each other. This is not a job-seeking program but one that will provide students with more insight into the workforce, career paths and connect them with others.

Applications are available on the LFS Tri-Mentoring website at http://trimentoring.landfood.ubc.ca. Applications are due September 22. Whether you have participated in the past or not, please review the Program requirements and “Frequently Asked Questions” section. We appreciate you taking the time to apply but only those chosen for the program will be notified in mid-October.
