Fulbright Canada Awards for Canadian students – applications due Nov 15, 2015

Fulbright Canada – Awards for Canadian Students

The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides the opportunity for outstanding Canadian students to study and/or conduct research in the United States. Award recipients include Canadian citizens who are graduate students, prospective graduate students, or junior professionals.

Applicants can apply for:

  • Traditional Fulbright student awards: US$15,000 for one nine-month academic year. These all-discipline awards can be taken up at any college, university, think tank, or government agency in the United States.
  • Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program: $400-$600 stipend per month (commensurate with average cost of living in host city), room and board, visa services, health insurance, and a bursary to complete two courses per semester. The award is for Canadian Francophone students and teachers, aged 21 to 29, who want to teach and study in the United States.

Excellence in scholarship, diversity, and community service are the hallmarks of the Fulbright Program. Fulbright Canada encourages and promotes bi-national collaborative research and thoughtful public debate on topics that reflect the broad range of contemporary issues relevant to Canada, the United States, and the relationship between the two countries. Fulbright Canada operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides the opportunity for outstanding Canadian students to pursue graduate study and/or research in the United States.

Fulbright Canada awards offer a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of scholarly issues, including important contemporary issues that are relevant to Canada, to the United States, and to the relationship between the two countries. While the competition is officially field-open, we are especially keen to support students in the humanities, in the areas of communications and culture, in Canadian – American relations, in all areas of contemporary public policy, on topics relating to culture and to the environment, law, indigenous issues, and in the pure and applied sciences. Please note that there are special competitions in certain areas and that these may vary.

LFS|US & The Equity and Inclusion Office Present: Apples 4 Educators – Oct 22, 2015

Ever wanted to thank your professor, teaching assistant, supervisor or mentor for all the hard work they have done so far, but don’t know how? LFS|US and the Equity and Inclusion Office will be providing free apples and sticky notes for you (students) to write an appreciation note which you will then drop off at the educator’s desk with the apple. We know that the more appreciated educators feel, the better the teaching tends to be, and students can play a huge role in fostering a positive learning environment and overall positive wellbeing for all.

Where: Martha Piper Plaza
When: Thursday, October 22nd from 10am-1pm

For Your Information: The tradition of students bringing an apple for their teacher has roots from the 17 or 18th century in Northern Europe or United States when poorer farmers would pay their children’s teachers with food – most notably with common and plentiful apples and potatoes.

Don’t forget to hashtag #apples4educators on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter to enter & win an AMS Food Services Gift Certificate!

The Land and Food Systems Undergraduate Society acknowledges the support of the Equity and Inclusion Office. Check out their new series of workshops “Connect with Respect Conversations.” Sign up at equity.ubc.ca
