BC SPCA Wild ARC Summer Practicum Program, deadline March 1

BC SPCA Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center (ARC) Summer Practicum Program is now accepting applications for 2015. The BC SPCA Wild ARC just outside of Victoria, BC is currently recruiting for its Summer Practicum Program. These two-month voluntary positions allow practicum participants to gain hands-on experience with Vancouver Island’s diverse wildlife species including fawns, raccoons, squirrels, songbirds and raptors.

This position is a valuable learning opportunity for anyone pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, technology, environmental, natural resource, or animal welfare studies. Practicums can be completed as part of an educational requirement, or to receive a Practicum Certificate through the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council.

Faculty Cup 2015, Jan 29th

Remember those sports day back in elementary and high school? The UBC AMS Student Life + Communications is here to bring you a university edition – FACULTY CUP 2015!

On January 29th, throw on your faculty colours, show your game face and unleash your moment. Faculty Cup is an awesome afternoon of sports and activities promoting faculty pride and friendly inter-faculty competition. LFS students, let’s represent our faculty and take home the Faculty Cup trophy!

LFS|US and FUS SAAM Showcase Night, Jan 27th

In January,  UBC promotes and runs Sexual Assault Awareness Month with many diverse events, social media coverage, and campaigns initiated by students, staff and faculty.

The Land and Food Systems and Foresty Undergraduate Societies are collaborating to host a Poetry Slam/ Showcase and Music Night around the theme of sexual assault, awareness, consent and confidence. It will be an informative night, filled with music and food. All students are welcomed!

Hungry at 5 pm on Wednesdays and don’t know where to find food? LFS|US is bringing Wednesday Night Dinners back EVERY Wednesday! Come down to the Agora Space in MacMillan for a delicious and hearty meal for only $5.  Don’t forget to bring your tupperware to skip the line!

Food and Environment Major Info Session – January 29, 2015

Calling all students in the Food and Environment major!

You’re invited to an information session and Q&A on Thursday, January 29 12pm-1pm, in MacMillan Rm 350.  Bring your lunch, we’ll provide refreshments and snacks. This meeting is for all Food and Environment students, 1st through 4th year.  Chris McGill, APBI program coordinator will host the meeting. The purpose is to get feedback from students about questions and/or concerns they may have about their major. Nutrikids Coordinator Opportunity, Application due February 1

Nutrikids is recruiting a new Coordinator for 2015! Are you looking for an opportunity to improve your public speaking and leadership skills? Are you looking to meet other nutrition students? This is also a great opportunity to strengthen your resume. We are looking for a new Finance Coordinator as we say Goodbye to Kaitlin and she goes off on her exciting Internship adventure!

Job Description of Finance/Website Coordinator:

  • Receive and record all volunteer and organization expenses
  • Prepare tri-annual invoices for community sponsors (December, April and June)
  • Maintain contact of financial purposes with sponsors
  • Write and mail all reimbursement cheques
  • Maintain an updated Facebook page with current events, Nutrikids news, and fun facts
  • Update blog with important volunteer, teacher and sponsorship updates
  • Maintain all streams of technology for Nutrikids
  • Assist in other duties in collaboration with the other coordinators

UBC Farm Symposium – January 30, 2015

This coming January 30th from 9am to 2pm, at the Old Barn Community Centre, UBC students, Faculty, staff, and community members will come together for the annual UBC Farm Symposium, a day of dialogue and engagement aimed at deepening our communal understanding and connection to food.

Registration for this daylong event is $5 and includes a local and sustainable lunch, as well as coffee, tea, and snacks throughout the day. I invite you to participate and share this opportunity widely with your students and networks.
