Song: “Bond Covalently” (parody of You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift)
I know you’d like to bond covalently
I can’t help thinking this is how it ought to be Got no charge, so not ionic,
Thinking to myself, Hey isn’t this easy
And you’ve got a charge that could light up this whole cell Haven’t seen it in a while cause of that empty shell
You say you’re fine, I know you better than that
No you’re not stable, I’ve gotta respond
We gotta make that covalent bond
Cause I complete you
We’d be partners
We can make water, CO2, and others Dreaming ‘bout the day,
When you wake up find
The charge you’re looking for
Has been here the whole time
If you can see than I’m the one that completes you Been here all along, so why do-n’t we
Bond covalently
Two non-metals with incomplete octe-ets All this time we’ll just be set if we…
Bond covalently
Oh, I remember we overlapped our shells, and shared electrons Pairing up side-by-side
Then we made a bond
And I know that we’re so strongAnd you stabilized me
I think I know where we belong And that’s to bond covalently
Assignment 3 – The Nitrogen and Phosphorus Poem
Take a trip with nitrogen,
The atmosphere its origin.
Converts to nitrate as fertilizer,
That’s how it enters biosphere.
When it rains, the water drains,
Into stream, more nutrients it gains.
Algae bloom, block sunlight in view,
Deplete oxygen, life to slew.
The cycle repeats for phosphorus,
It builds, repairs, cells made flawless.
In rocks and soap and laundry detergents,
It’s also a foe to marine environments.
Time to put our actions together,
Plant shrubs and trees and more sunflowers.
Spread the word to increase awareness,
The world’ll be a better place, I promise.
Assignment 3: Cross-Genre Translation
Mutation
Minor change is all it takes.
UV radiation damaging your genetic information,
Thymine base pairs disrupting your DNA structure.
A virus invading your cells,
Transcribing foreign materials,
Inserting nitrites, creating a new sequence.
Outcomes may be detrimental, but
Never underestimate its role in diversity.
Assignment 3: Jingyi’s Static Zap

Assignment 3 – Frère Comma
During my practicum, I taught my grade 7 French students how to appropriately use commas in French. I translated this grammar lesson into a nursery rhyme, using the famous “Frère Jacques” song, also known as “Brother John” in English. I called my nursery rhyme “Frère Comma”.
