How I Got Here

Here are some of the important experiences on my journey to becoming a teacher:

High School

Early on I knew I wanted to help others in their learning.  As I became involved in leadership class, I found it to be an extremely influential experience for my future.  From there, I increased my involvement in leadership opportunities.  Other experience in school that I really enjoyed and led me to head toward teaching were coaching young children and teaching Sunday school.

Summer Camp

This was probably the most influential experience in my journey so far.  Camp was a place that I came to appreciate the role of leadership over children.  I realized that it was more than something I enjoy, but it is truly a passion for me.  After spending five successful years as a counselor, I really wanted to help develop the camp and future leaders and counsellors.  I took the opportunity to step into the program director role that enabled me to teach the staff and leaders in training to improve the campers’ experiences.  This is where I found my greatest fulfillment and I knew I always wanted to be involved in teaching no matter what career I headed into.

In addition, moving into a leadership position gave me the opportunity to sit on the leadership board and that enabled me to see another side of the role of working with children.  As well, it was a fantastic chance to work with a number of teachers and learn a lot about planning.

Youth Pastor

My eight years as a youth pastor gave me so many opportunities to teach and lead.  It was a phenomenal experience in many different teaching atmospheres that only encouraged my passion for helping others learn.  I discovered how much I truly enjoy facilitating learning, no matter what the topic.  This experience also gave me  a great deal of experience in planning curriculum and enabled me to coach many different teams and see the education system from a different perspective

Bachelor of Education

During my year in the B.Ed program, I was encouraged that this is something that I enjoy and am able to do.  I appreciated the instruction and feedback I received and it enabled me to hone my teaching skills.

I am excited for what comes next.  I can not wait for the opportunity to teach and develop children into life long learners.
