Inquiry Project
What is your question an how did it arise for you?
Question: What are “The economic liberties granted to a public school for fund raising purposes that reside outside of federal support and the limits put on those freedoms”
Why: Regardless of the school I visited and the conversation I engaged in it did not take long for the idea of being without something in the school or the classroom to emerge. Coming from extended tour of second and third world countries I was amazed at the lack of resources available to our schools.
Why is your question significant (to you and/or to others)?
In this free market society everything comes with a price tag and at a cost. It seems that every student, teacher, classroom and school is in need of something and some of those needs seem to be as basic as getting a textbook for every student or being able to perform simple lab activities.
What resources will you draw on to explore your question? (e.g., journal, readings, curriculum/policy documents)
I expect to read up on some policy documents regarding federal support and fundraising abilities
I expect to read a lot of American and Asian education articles as privatized schools are the norm and thrive in these region.
I expect to read up on journals and articles that support the reasons why Canada has been historically against privatizing education
I expect to look for some Canadian schools that can serve as models for fundraising.
What do you expect to find out?
Answers to back a teacher’s financial situation that will aid him or her in the classroom.
To find ways that teachers and department can raise money.
To find ways to raise funds publically or from the private sector
To find ways to earn grants, bursaries and other forms of financial stimulus
To find way to appropriate a larger piece of the pie (federal funding)
