The Hour of Code is an annual worldwide event that introduces students to computer science.  The movement is designed to uncover stereotypes about code and to increase participation in the field of computer science.  Offered in forty-five language across almost two hundred countries, around three thousand Canadian students participated in December of 2019.  In BC, the applied design, skills, and technology (ADST) curriculum involves the design, production, acquisition, and application of the skills and technologies to prepare students for the world of the future.  Although coding isn’t introduced until secondary school, exposing younger students to computer science develops problem solving skills, critical thinking, and creative thinking.  Lastly, the tutorials, activities, and resources are designed for students from Kindergarten through grade twelve and can be accessed year-round, on a variety of devices or without the use of technology.
