Scratch is a programming language with which you can create and share stories, games, and animations in an online community.  ScratchEd is a project out of the Harvard Graduate School of Education that supports educators working with Scratch in the classroom.  Scratch can be integrated across all the subject areas, including literacy, mathematics, arts education, music, and social studies.

This article reviews the use of Scratch at the Horace Mann School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HMS) in the United States.  At HMS, Scratch is used to develop language skills in both American Sign Language and English, while teaching programming to students.  Teachers encourages discussion and questioning amongst students, who use the app to communicate and express themselves.  Additional resources linked include a more detailed article on creating opportunities for students with hearing impairments.
