Province of British Columbia. (2014). Protecting Information. https://mytrainingbc.ca/myedPOI/overview/001.html
This training program is designed for school districts and employees to understand their legal obligation when it comes to protection and privacy issues. The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) controls the collection, use, and release of personal information by public organizations, including school boards. Therefore, teachers are required to protect the privacy rights of their students and must understand how to do so. This free fifteen-minute training program provides an overview of FOIPPA and the handing of information, information security, privacy breaches, and protection of personal information. It provides explicit examples that translate to the classroom and allows teachers to assess their knowledge with a quiz. Although this comprehensive resource is specific to educators in BC, it is important that teachers also understand the details of FOIPPA and any regulations specific to their school district.
