Hong Kong Culture Ads

Hi everyone, time to do my first blog for COMM296 and talk about my background. I am actually from Hong Kong and just came to Vancouver 2 years ago so my English still needs improvement.

Anyways, to easily introduce my home country to you, I have found a video to share with you. This time I have chosen an ad very popular from the place I came from. I really love this ad. And here it goes……

This ad has won a lot of prizes in the Hong Kong Advertisement Ceremony 2009. The lines of the script is spoken in Cantonese but it has English subtitle in the video.

The company that the ad was selling is called Mannings, which runs similar business like Shoppers Drug Mart in Vancouver. It is promoting it’s excellent service to the audience and hope that because of the excellent service it provides, customers will change from shopping at their competitors shops to their shops. It has, at the same time, promoted that all its salespersons are warm people by helping and treating all kinds of customers from kid to elderly very nice in the ad. Also, the main character of the ad, the little girl, has said that the sales very good to everyone. This ad has really boosted the business volume of Mannings. Even for me, I have really turned from shopping at its competitor’s stores to its stores.

However, the most important thing I would like to share with you is that indeed the little girl in this ad was very very famous and popular in Hong Kong after the ad was released. She has became an artist in the Hong Kong show business. She has won the best actress in the  Hong Kong Advertisement Ceremony 2009. For almost a whole year, she has been shooting on different TV series, being interviewed in many magazines, being the guests for presenting awards in different awards ceremony and even has her own portrait album.

This has really surprised me about the powerfulness of advertisement or marketing as a whole. Not even can advertisement bring about the actual earnings for the products or company it promotes, it can influence other things strongly in the same time. Just like this ad, a little kid just 5 years old became a very famous artist in Hong Kong and everybody knows her! This has made me realize that since marketing is truly very powerful, we must be extremely careful in doing marketing for any product or company. Definitely it can bring positive effects, however because of  its powerfulness, once any negative effect starts, we will need a lot of effort to stop the influence!

So that’s all for my first blog! Chat with you again next week =]

I watched that commercial before too.
    She’s such a cutie pie
I agree with you that it’s a very catchy and famous commercial, and it makes more people pay attention to Mannings.
