ENGL 301 99A: Technical Writing Course
University of British Columbia
1873 East Mall
Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z3
Dear English 301 Group:
I am writing this letter in a purpose to become a member of your professional writing team, according to the objectives of the course, and namely, lesson 1.2. I am considering myself as a congruous candidate for this position and my versatile background, as you may assure reading this letter, will be an important and valuable tool in teamwork.
Considering the fact that we will work together next four months I would like to introduce myself a little bit more. I am a first-year graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Oncology Program, moved to Vancouver from Ukraine. Before entering UBC, I obtained a medical degree and worked as a pathologist for three years in Lviv Regional Pathology Bureau. During my study at medical university and work in hospital, I gained firm writing skills in formal and technical communication, filling official medical reports and documents. Writing out a vast number of analyses for patients and reports for other physicians, as a daily routine, I fostered preciseness and thoroughness in my writing. And the reason for this is that one incorrect or ambiguous phrase can lead to detrimental results and consequences in human being life. At the same time, I have strong leadership, team-management, and networking abilities, because I worked as an executive director in a charity organization, involved in patients assistance, when they get to hospital.
However, I need to point out that as English is not my mother tongue, occasionally I tend to express my ideas and thoughts in an untoward manner. This trait is the main drawback in my writing skills, which I am confident, can be compensated by my strong characteristics in technical writing.
My learning philosophy is – never stop persuading your goals, even if it looks unachievable. No matter how difficult and far I am in reaching my purpose, I will do my best to procure it.
Thank you for my application consideration and feel free to contact me at tshyp@alumni.ubc.ca. I am looking forward to hearing and learning more about you to create a solid and successful team.
Sincerely,
——
