Go Back in Time: Simulating the Canadian Confederation in Class
What was it like for each of six colonies in 1864? Threats of from Canada’s southern neighbour, the United States, left the colonies without a strong defence. Immigration and battles over slavery brought people to various colonies looking for a fresh start. However, each colony had their own problems to fix, their own specific things they wanted joining together and uniting as one would bring them.
As you work through this actiivity, you will read, write, and role play about some of these issues that the six colonies were facing. At the end, we will draft our own Confederation Bill and hold a vote to see who has decided to make history and create the Confederation of Canada and who will remain their own colony.
