Step 2: Proposal Research

It is now time for your group to research the position of the colony you have been assigned. Did they want to join confederation? Did they think joining the other colonies would be a waste of time? You will need to find out what the issues your problem was facing and decide if they would have been fixed if they joined the confederation. To help you with your research here are two websites to get you started.

Canadian Encyclopedia and Library and Archives Canada

ORAGANIZE YOUR RESEARCH

Your group should use the briefing sheet and colonial perspective sheet in your Google Doc to organize your research.

Check over the Rubric before you get started. Discuss with your group what you can do to reach level 5.

Google Docs:

WRITTEN SUBMISSION

Once you have your research organized, your group needs to draft your written submission and submit it to the teacher.  Use the Preliminary Proposal sheet in your Google Doc to get started. Everyone in the group should upload the draft to their “Writing” section of their History Blog.  If you need help remembering how to create a new tab or page, make sure you see your teacher or a classmate. You can also use the comment section below to ask questions if you are at home and cannot remember.

Key points to include in your Submission

  • Your groups position- joining or not joining
  • Supporting facts that connect to and explain  your groups position
  • What your group would be willing to negotiate and what they would not
