Does the devil really wear the right Prada?

The Devil wears Prada is a movie focuses on a small-town girl(Andrea) who is just out of the college and trying to secure an interview with an impossibly strict boss (Miranda Priestly). According to this movie, there are both benefits and drawbacks on organizational behaviour. However, drawbacks are over benefits.

Firstly, the main issue can be identified is Miranda’s leadership style in Runway. It makes a toxic working environment which employees are not dare to share their own ideas about their tasks and they all strive to work. Due to this leadership style of management, employees are not allowed to have any opinions in their tasks and must follow orders that were given by Miranda. This is an irresponsible approach to business since employees have no frame of determining which requests are reasonable or unreasonable. This kind of leadership will result in all employees being demotivated and dislike their jobs. Therefore, this will lead to an obvious decrease in both productivity and efficiency of working and cause large stress on them.

Moreover, there is also a serious issue in its Human Resources Management. Acceptable hiring practices are violated immediately when Andrea is hired with no mention of pay, benefits and working hours. Under normal situations, an employer should first offer the candidate the job description, salary and working hours. In addition, Andrea is not offered the job, instead she is informed that Miranda is willing to hire her.

However, there are also some valuable organizational behavior management which is good to learn. Firstly, Miranda uses reward system by offering her employees an equal chance to Fashion week to motivate every girl in her company to work hard. Miranda’s first assistant(Emily) who is trying to make it to Fashion Week in Paris so she is putting up with Miranda’s outrageous demands.

In conclusion, The Devil wears Prada tells us two important things in workplace. Firstly, power plays an important role in the workplace. Secondly, when we enter a workplace, it is very significant for us to know what our values are and how how they will dictate actions.
