United Nations: Social Enterprises?

Posted by in Uncategorized

With the United Nations being one of the most stabilized and powerful international organization in the world, one may think why is there still the urgency to have social enterprises or programs like The Arc? This is the catch. United Nations is fully funded but there are still social entrepreneurs in the world trying to solve their problems. For those who are unsure of what “Social Entrepreneurs” mean, its as simple as how Sally Osberg of the Skoll Foundation stated: “Social Entrepreneurship pave avenues of opportunity for those who would, otherwise, be locked into lives without hope”. However, I do not deeply agree that if United Nations is fully funded, most problems should be solved. One organization cannot simply solve all the problems that surface around the world. This is in fact the problem, United Nations is too funded. Their organization to an extent can be simply labeled as “too structured”. This is where social enterprises kick in. As an enterprise, they tackle issues a long with the help of the community. Social Entrepreneurs are looking for innovative ways in which the United Nations lack in order to solve problems efficiently. Instead of criticizing United Nations for its standards of not solving problems efficiently, I believe, this is why we have social enterprises. As a team, we can tackle problems and we should bring forth and cherish United Nations existence.
