If you are a fan of mobile games provided by the app store, there is no doubt you’ve heard of Clash of Clans. With multiple appearances into the top 10 lists of games in the app store, certainly Clash of Clan has created a successful business model. As a player of the game myself, I can totally relate to why the game has been an outburst in popularity in recent years. As mentioned in Daniel Leong’s blog “PoD In CoC”, Supercell, a Finnish company founded in 2010, earns a wicked $5.15 million dollars revenue with Clash of Clans as one of the top contributors of the many games it operates on. But, the question is what makes this game so special from other games provided in the app store?

Its simple. In the value proposition, point of difference is simply what makes this product differentiable from other products. As mentioned in previous COMM 101 classes, differentiation can be seen as a top strategic method for companies to realize and bring forth. As mentioned in Leong’s blog, Clash of Clan is one of the first games in the app store to introduce a game similar to the rising game, League of Legends, in the computer industry. Inputting unseen factors to the mobile gaming device industry such as communication with other players within the game is what sets Clash of Clans apart from other mobile games. In response, with first hand experience of the game, i can totally relate to why this game has made such a success in the mobile gaming industry. Incorporating such an important factor in business economics like point of difference can cause a rewarding outcome much similar to Super cell’s Clash of Clan.
