All English students enrolled in a graduate degree at UBC are automatically members of our Graduate Caucus. Our organization hosts various social and academic events throughout the year for the graduate student community. We run coffee hours and social evenings, and take care of the reading room in our department. We also coordinate works-in-progress sessions where students get together to facilitate conversations about writing and the various stresses (and triumphs) throughout the process.
We have elected representatives sitting on the graduate committee, Graduate Student Society (GSS), and other organizations with a particular interest in voicing concerns of our graduate students both within the department, and across the university. We meet monthly to discuss student issues specific to graduate life in the English department, and provide an open forum at these caucus meetings for students to discuss how we can provide more programming targeting current needs.
