BBA celebrationBBA, short for Broad-Base Admission, is one of UBC’s admissions components in determining a student’s overall admissions score. The BBA process allows UBC to evaluate students not only from an academic perspective, but also their involvement at school and in the community providing a more well rounded view of the students. This process will not be successful without the help of volunteer BBA readers and they consist of staff, faculty members and alumni. This year on the Okanagan campus, 12,041 personal profiles were read by 73 readers.

Last week, UBC Okanagan hosted a BBA reader appreciation wine & cheese for all staff and faculties that work at the campus. The top 5 BBA readers were recognized:

  • Donna McGrath: 430
  • Diane Dyrdal: 404
  • Heinz Bauschke: 363
  • Jannik Eikenaar: 330
  • Carrie Karsgaard: 289

Although the wave of BBA reading is over, the Admissions Office is currently starting their reference check campaign for UBC Okanagan direct entry applicants. A sample representative of the applicant pool will be identified and their references will be contacted to confirm details submitted on their application. This is the final, critical piece of the admission process.

Jennifer Kerr is seeking any volunteer to assist with this step and will only request a commitment to follow-up with 5 applicants. If anyone is interested in helping Jennifer, please contact her at 250-807-8034 or jennifer.kerr@ubc.ca. Anyone who decides to volunteer will be entered into a draw for a bottle of wine and a liquor store gift card.
