With just under one month until Destination kicks off on our Okanagan campus and six weeks until it kicks off in Vancouver, we’re sure you can imagine the level of hard work, collaboration, and excitement going into this stage of planning. If you’d like to be a part of it, read on…
So, what have we got planned for our 500 + students visiting Kelowna and 2000 + visiting Vancouver next month? An “orientation-esque” opening ceremony in our respective gyms which will represent current student and faculty voices and talents; a welcome and introduction to their faculty and facilities; elective sessions which profile student involvement, exchange, financial planning, commuter spaces, rec opportunities, and much more; and social programming designed to show off our campuses, while providing our newly admitted students the opportunity to feel at home on campus and make friends from the class of 2019! And remember, for those who must travel from across the country to be here, transportation to campus and accommodation in rez is on us!
Destination UBC is also an opportunity for our current students to share what they love about UBC. We employ over 175 chaperones and volunteers on the two campuses who contribute to planning, supervising, shuttling people around campus, and running programming over the weekends. They are the spirit of the event and are often the first face attendees will see; as they land at the airport, board a charter bus, or arrive on campus. Heart-warmingly, when interviewed for the positions, an overwhelming draw to the role was that these students chose UBC themselves because of a connection they made visiting campus and meeting current students, or that they wish they had had that opportunity. Many even attended Destination UBC last year as high school students!

Destination UBC will run from May 8-10 at UBC’s Okanagan campus and May 22-24 on UBC’s Vancouver campus.
