sweaterdayOn February 5, 2015 UBC celebrated National WWF Sweater Day, a day to remind people to wear a sweater instead of turning up the heat in hopes to raise awareness about our energy consumption.

According to the information circulated by UBC Sustainability,

In 2014, UBC Energy & Water Services delivered 2.3 million GJ of electrical, gas, steam, and hot water to the campus and its customers – the equivalent energy use of 22,000 Canadian homes.

Find out how we participated and how you can still get involved.

To take part in Sweater Day participating units were asked to:

  1. Turn off personal heaters and turn down office heat by 2 degrees wherever possible.
  2. Get as many people as you can find to wear a sweater and submit a team photo for prizes.
  3. Complete an energy quiz.
  4. Visit the Sweater Day and BC Hydro booths.
  5. Organize a sweater drive.

Some of our Brock Hall units participated in the team photo contest with our very own Scheduling & Classroom Services being one of the two units on campus to win the prize of a $50 gift card from UBC Food Services and UBC Bookstore!

Donate a warm sweater

Admissions also designated a box in their area for donations of sweaters and warm clothing.  Donations are still being accepted.  The donation box is located on the 2nd floor of Brock Hall in room 2018 on the table across from the fridge.  The last day to provide a donation to the box will be Thursday February 19th.
