On Saturday, April 1, UBC unveiled an inspirational monument – a 55-foot totem pole by 7idansuu (Edenshaw), James Hart, Haida master carver and Hereditary Chief.

The pole is located on the Vancouver Campus (Main Mall and Agronomy Road) on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Musqeam people.

Commissioned by the Audain Foundation, as well as UBC, it’s one of two UBC Photo courtesy of: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ubcpublicaffairs/sets/72157681813206516initiatives that aim to capture the stories of Indigenous and Canadian relations and to ensure the history of Canada’s Native residential schools is told and never forgotten.
