Be an LFS ACE Team Leader! | Applications Close September 16

The LFS Academic and Career Engagement Team (ACE Team) is a brand new initiative launching for the 2016 academic year! This new Peer Program will be part of the Events and Peer Advising cluster which shares a common goal of supporting students in their experience at UBC.

The LFS ACE Team focuses on delivering programming and events related to academic success and career development that allows participants to gain and apply relevant skills, be exposed to campus and Faculty-specific resources, and engage with their peers.

LFS ACE Team leaders gain specific skills in the areas of event-planning and student development, increase their knowledge of student resources and outlets, and expand their friendships and professional relationships across the Peer Programs Network and the broader community of student leadership on campus.

We’re looking for nine excited and committed LFS students representing all three programs (Applied Biology, Global Resource Systems, and Food, Nutrition, & Health) who are invested in creating a sense of community and support in the areas of academics and career-related development opportunities for their peers.

FREE Upcoming LPI Workshops – September 12th-15th or September 19th-22nd, 2016

REGISTRATION FOR THIS WORKSHOP IS REQUIRED.

This 4-session, M-Th workshop is designed to help you practice and prepare to write the LPI essay. Session 1 offers you an overview of the expectations of the essay; session 2 gives you the chance to write a practice essay in a timed environment; session 3 covers the marking structure of the essay and gives you time to do self-evaluation on your work; and finally, session 4 gives you a chance to get feedback and ask questions in an interactive environment. This workshop will be facilitated by a peer writing consultant from the Centre for Writing and Scholarly Communication.

Note: All of the sessions will actually run for one hour, except session 2, which will allow you 90 minutes to write your practise essay.

There are two different options to choose from:

  1. September 12-15: 9-10am, with Brooklyn Kemp OR
  2. September 19-22: 5-6pm, with Lily Cai

CSFS Feeding Growth Training Series – Sept 29 – Nov 24, 2016

This Fall, the CSFS is offering Feeding Growth, a training series where progressive food entrepreneurs connect with business sector leaders for advice and support in building their brand, scaling their manufacturing, and accessing financing. These connections and the learning they foster create a BC-based, globally recognized community of thriving organic, sustainable, and ethical packaged foods.

From September 29th onwards, great LFS supporters from Nature’s Path to your very own food science alumni (e.g,. Mauricio from Faculty Brewing), will be sharing their expertise with emerging food processors. If you are interested in this series, check out the invitation below!

LFS Tri-Mentoring Program | Applications due September 15

Applications for the 2016/17 LFS Tri-Mentoring Program are now open!

This long-standing program works to create networking and career development opportunities for current students. This free program is open to all students in their second-year and above and is an excellent way to explore new career pathways, engage with alumni and local professionals, and develop professional practices prior to graduation.
