    Hi Guys,

I really enjoyed this project for its use of an alternate medium and literacy to the essay and written word, in an English classroom. Another aspect I enjoyed is that each member of the group had to create their own art piece on their own version of a topic. For high school students, this might be a hard task to complete, as not many of them know the Shakespeare cannon more widely than the one or two plays they may read in a given year. Perhaps they can each create their art piece on a specific act or scene in the play, perhaps the play that the class has finished reading.
I am stealing this rubric for my future endeavors. Thanks!

Dear Danielle, Anna, Ashley, Becca, Amanda and Justin,

Thanks for offering this collection of visual art as an alternative to the range of digital media projects completed by others in the class. Your work reminds me of the school of poster design out of Poland. There is a long tradition of the production of film and theatre posters as an art form.

The Polish Posters Shop near the main square in Krakow carries an array of the best examples. Take a look at their online store here and search for “Shakespeare” (or for your favourite play): http://www.polishposter.com/ . Some of the examples are amazing.

An interesting activity, then, would be to have students create theatre or film posters having examined some of the Polish exemplars beforehand.

Your written comments are thoughtful and thorough. It’s true that some students may feel less comfortable than others with the parameters of the assignment, and yet the range of your own work demonstrates how flexible the assignment is in terms of accommodating those with a range of experience in the visual arts.

Thanks again for your creative contribution.

    Best regards,

    Teresa
