Middle Childhood Intervention: Module Three – The Professionals

The “V” Professionals

Vision Consultant

Vision consultants work with children who are blind or have low vision. They help children with vision loss use any vision they do have and be as independent as possible. They work with families and school teachers in order to adapt environments and make them accessible to children with vision loss. Vision consultants are often on Individual Education Plan (IEP) (see full Glossary) teams. They sometimes work as advocates for children and their families and make sure children get the services that they need. They also help children and their parents learn about and understand any adaptive equipment the child may have to use. Examples of adaptive equipment include using Braille (see full Glossary).
