Register now for DAP’s Careers in Accounting workshop series – starts September 20th

Join DAP career coach, Russell Garrett, for DAP’s upcoming Careers in Accounting workshop series starting September 20th. This workshop series is comprised of 7 sequential workshops that will take you through each step of the career planning process, starting on September 20th, corresponding to one or more of our Career Toolkits. Not sure how to get started on the accounting career path? Don’t miss this opportunity for tailored guidance and exclusive tips to start you on your way!

All of the workshops will be held in-person at 4:45 to 6:15 pm PT, with an option to attend online for those who are unable to attend in-person. Registration for all 7 workshops is now open on COOL where you will have the option to select the in-person workshop or the online workshop (please make sure to only select one of the two for each workshop date).

CPABC has launched new resources for post-secondary students!

The first is a new webpage outlining the Journey to Becoming a CPA. Please take a look at the information provided in this webpage, as it outlines what you can do, as a post-secondary student, to plan your journey to becoming a CPA and be ready for the CPA Professional Education Program.

CPABC Student Recruitment also has a new booking system where you can book an appointment with a Student Recruitment Officer aligned with your post-secondary institution.

Fall Public Practice Recruit is in full swing. Public practice firms are offering recruitment events and activities across BC. Learn about getting hired for summer internships, co-op positions, and full time jobs after you graduate for 2023. Read through these events and register here.

This session will cover the CPA program in detail and include an open Q&A with CPABC’s Senior Student Recruitment Officer. This session will be tailored to post-secondary students interested in becoming a CPA, and is open to students from any university or college program.

September 15 12:00pm – 1:00pm CPABC How to Series ‘Work your passion with CPA’ Online Hosted quarterly, this new webinar series “CPABC How to Series” features interactive breakout rooms to connect audience members directly with our Panelists to ask their own questions and learn all the “how to’s” of what is involved in becoming a CPA. This webinar will feature 3 panelists who live and work their foodie passion with their CPA. Learn how to make the CPA designation your own, and how to align your accounting career path to your interests, passions and values. Join the conversation with Reena Bienko, CPA, CA, Manager of Corporate Accounting and FP&A from Kriska Transportation Group. You will have an opportunity to ask your own questions about a career in accounting.
September 28 5:00pm – 6:00pm CPA’s Journey – Pre-approved Program Route (PPR) Online CPA’s Journey features real-life CPAs and CPA Candidates working in various sectors. Speakers will talk about their CPA journey and how they achieved a work-life balance while in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP). In this webinar, hear from our panelists, Neil Ma, CPA and Dilsharn Mokha, on why they chose the Pre-approved Program Route (PPR), what influenced their decision, and what doors this pathway opened for them.

Reminder – Get ready for your fall recruit interviews – Upcoming workshop for fall recruit on Monday, September 12th

As a reminder, DAP career coach, Russell Garrett, is holding workshops on the upcoming fall recruitment cycle for pre-approved program route (PPR) positions. The majority of public practice accounting firms will be hiring through this cycle, so if you are interested in working in public practice and will be ready to start a full-time role in 2023, attend the upcoming sessions to learn more and build your foundation for a successful recruitment experience!

The final workshop in this series will be on interview prep, held on Monday, September 12th, 4:45 to 6:15 pm PT, with the option to attend in-person and virtually:

When PPR firms respond to applications and invite candidates to interview with them, there is always a mixture of excitement and nerves. Whether the interview is by phone, video recording, live video, individual, panel, conversational, or structured you will need to be ready for any and every eventuality. Then, as you move on to second level interviews you will need strategies to perform even better than the first phase. Learn how to plan to meet recruiting staff, staff accountants, managers, senior managers or partners, which are all possible during the PPR interviewing process. Be prepared for and make the best of each opportunity by understanding what firms are expecting and how to construct your responses in an impacting way. Then, discover how to leave a lasting impression with your own prepared questions and a closing that will raise their attraction to you and increase their interest in making an employment offer.

Registration for both of these workshops is now open on COOL – you’ll have the option to select either in-person or virtual attendance.

DAP Student Club’s CPA Career Fair – Tuesday, September 13th, 3-5 pm

We are thrilled to announce and formally extend an invitation to our DAPSC CPA Career Fair event. The event will include top accounting firms and it will provide you with the opportunity to network with firm representatives and recruiters

We will be hosting firm representatives with firm booths from 10+ Top CPA Accounting Firms – Candidates will have the opportunity to walk around and visit firm booths which will have promotional & informational material.
