Enrolment Requirements

Please note:

You are expected to be continuously enrolled in classes during the program. Continuous enrolment is defined as:

  • Enrolment in at least one class in each of the Winter Terms 1 and 2, September to December and January to April, respectively
  • Enrolment in at least one class in either of the Summer Term 1 or 2, May to June and July to August, respectively

Course load (full-time/part-time definitions)

The program has been designed to allow you to complete courses on a full-time or part-time basis. The minimum credit course loads to qualify as a full-time student or for student loans are noted below. All DAP courses are 3-credit courses.

Taking a break from your studies

If you are not able to maintain continuous enrolment and are in good academic standing, you are eligible to take a temporary leave from the program for up to one year. A $50 fee is required for each temporary leave request.

How to request temporary leave
  1. Submit a temporary leave request form.
  2. Upon receipt of your request, instructions will be forwarded to you outlining how to pay the $50 temporary leave fee. The request will not be processed until the fee has been received.

Frequently asked questions about temporary leaves

What if I’m unable to return after being on leave for 1 year?

Students who are on leave and do not register for courses upon completion of the temporary leave must apply to re-enter the Program. Readmission is not guaranteed. Students who are re-admitted will be governed by the academic regulations and program requirements in effect at the time of readmission to UBC.

As an international student am I eligible for temporary leave?

Taking a leave of absence as an International student may have implications on your study permit and ability to work.
