UBC Tax Assistance Clinic (TACS) is hiring! Apply by November 9

The UBC TACS Clinic is hiring! This clinic offers free tax filing services for international students, newcomers, senior citizens, and more, and they’re looking for dedicated volunteers and supervisors to make it a success.

Roles Open:

  • Volunteers: Assist clients, file basic tax returns, and help create a welcoming experience! (15 hours minimum commitment)
  • Supervisors: Lead shifts, mentor volunteers, and oversee smooth operations. (20 hours minimum commitment)

Application Deadline: Apply by November 9, 11:59 PM PT.

Platinum Perspectives is an evening featuring panel discussions with amazing firm representatives from accounting firms in Vancouver. This will be an amazing opportunity to gain insights into the industry, ask your most burning questions, and grow your network.

This informative event will consist of two consecutive panels, followed by an open networking session. You will get the chance to ask questions from the panel, so take the time to think of good questions and come prepared!

Welcome to the start of term! Accessing Workday Student – your UBC student system

Welcome to the start of term!

As you may be aware, as of September 1, 2024, UBC has fully transitioned student systems from the Student Service Centre (SSC) to Workday Student (WDS)

Moving forward, all incoming and current UBC DAP students should be using WDS as well as myUBCDAP for program-related tasks. Specifically, all registration activity for DAP courses (registration in new courses, transfers and withdrawals) are to be done through myUBCDAP:

As well, you can view a summary schedule and timetable for the current and upcoming terms at Course Schedules – myUBCDAP.

For this reason, all DAP students will see a Full Registration Hold on your profiles, which specifies that registration for DAP students (add/drop/transfer) does not take place on Workday. You will see this hold for the entirety of your time in the program.

There will be areas of WDS that will be applicable and relevant to your student journey that we encourage you to visit and familiarize yourself with. As a starting point, please review your personal information details on your profile and update as needed. Please review Personal information | Workday Tutorials (ubc.ca) for further information on how to make these updates. You may notice that other functionality isn’t available yet – these features will be rolled out in a phased approach and will come online when you need to perform key tasks.

Applications now open for BDO Canada LLP Service Award (1 x $2750) and CPA Education Foundation of BC Award (2 x $1000) (apply by August 31st)

We are now accepting applications for the following 2024 Winter Session awards:

  • 1500 BDO Canada LLP Service Award, 1 award valued at $2750
    A service award endowed by BDO Canada LLP to recognize a student in the Diploma in Accounting Program (DAP), made on the recommendation of the Sauder School of Business to a part-time or full-time student who is enrolled in the DAP Program and demonstrates high levels of community service and volunteerism within the university or community. Award candidates must also demonstrate high academic standing in the DAP Program.
  • 1661 Chartered Accountants Education Foundation Jim Miller DAP Scholarship, 2 awards valued at $1000 each
    Awarded on the recommendation of the School to students with high academic standing and leadership ability who intend to become a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)

Both awards are open to DAP students enrolled in Summer Session courses and enrolled in upcoming Winter Term 1 at the time of application; must have completed a minimum of 9 DAP credit units, with a minimum 75% average by end of Summer Session.

Applications are due August 31st. All qualified students are encouraged to apply!
