The CFA Standards of Professional Conduct outline ethical guidelines for CFA candidates. Whether you’re considering the CFA exam or want to deepen your knowledge key CFA topic areas, this session, led by award-winning instructor and highly experienced CFA charterholder Darren Degraaf, CFA, MAFM, CPA (not in public practice), PRM, will equip you with the insights and expertise to navigate the world of finance and hopefully pick up a few “tips n tricks” to help you perform even better on game day.

Demonstrate and develop your business acumen by challenging yourself and your teammates to create strategic, innovative solutions to real issues facing real businesses! The CPABC Annual Business Case Competition is a business strategy case competition with two competition rounds. The Top 8 teams from the First Round will be invited to compete in the Final Round at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver campus. The Final Round includes an evening networking and celebration reception joined by CPA members across BC.
The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of $2,400. The second placed team will receive a cash prize of $1,200 and the third placed team will receive a cash prize of $600.

Learn about the practical experience requirements (PER) for the CPA designation as a post-secondary student. All aspects of the PER will be covered in detail, including the PER competencies, gaining paid experience while in post-secondary, tracking experience, and career exploration to prepare for employment after graduation. The presentation will conclude with an open question and answer period with CPABC.
Learn how to transfer your international education and work experience (accounting/finance) towards the CPA program and confer the CPA designation. This session will walk you through the admission requirements, explain the structure of the CPA program, and how to connect with employers in the accounting sector. Special guest speakers from BC settlement agencies ISSofBC, MOSAIC, and S.U.C.C.E.S.S. will present on their resources for newcomers (recent PR status) in BC for financial assistance, free mentorship, and career counselling services to help you attain your goals in becoming a CPA.

Designated accounting professionals (active and in good standing) from an international accounting body that is listed as a ‘Member Organization’ of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) are eligible to apply for CPAWSB IFAC Member Assessment for advanced standing into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
CPABC and CPAWSB guest speakers will present an overview of the academic and work experience exemptions (bridging) granted under this pathway, explain the steps on how to apply, documents required, fees and duration of the CPA program. Participants will also learn about the examination materials available to them, academic and employment resources, and much more.
