Registration Deadline: January 24, 2025 at 1:00pm PST

First Round: January 31 – February 2, 2025 (video submission)

Final Round: March 22, 2025 (in-person presentation)

CPABC is calling all BC and Yukon post-secondary students!

Are you ready to tackle real-world business challenges and compete for cash prizes up to $2,400? Gather your teammates and join the CPABC Business Case Competition to showcase your problem-solving skills and innovative ideas.

The competition is a business strategy case competition consisting of two rounds. The top 8 teams from the First Round will be invited to compete in the Final Round at the CPABC office in downtown Vancouver, followed by an evening networking and celebration reception at Shangri-La Vancouver. In addition to the top 8 teams, another 32 teams will be invited to the evening reception. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with sponsors, invited CPAs, and fellow students.

Happy New Year! We are writing today to remind you to invite your students and clubs to apply to KPMG Ace the Case 2025!

Applications are still live on our careers website and will close on January 12, 2025. If you are interested in learning more about KPMG Ace the Case 2025, you can visit us here. KPMG Ace the Case will provide students the opportunity to interact with their peers as they work together to develop a solution to a real-world business problem and share it with KPMG leadership. Students will ignite their passion to create solutions to real-world problems, collaborate with others from across the country, develop business skills and grow their network within KPMG.

The Case Competition for undergraduate STEM students, business students, or students looking to achieve their CPA designation will provide students with a taste of what it’s like to work at KPMG, and an opportunity to participate in a spotlight session showcasing the CPA support provided by our firm. Working in teams with peers in your region, students will collaborate to solve a real-world business problem by completing a case study through a business, digital and CPA lens, receiving valuable feedback from industry professionals. KPMG Ace the Case is ideal for students who are interested in building a career in audit, tax or advisory at KPMG.

Participant Eligibility

To participate in KPMG Ace the Case 2025, students must be currently:

  • Enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Not employed at KPMG (no current or future-dated offer)
  • Planning to pursue a career at KPMG
  • In their first to third year of an undergraduate business or STEM program

Students are invited to apply individually, and if selected, will be grouped into teams.

KPMG Ace the Case 2025 offers students the opportunity to work with their peers to develop a solution to a business problem and present it to KPMG leadership. This competition provides a platform to ignite a passion for solving real-world challenges, collaborate with students from across the country, enhance business skills, and grow a professional network within KPMG in Canada.

Case Competition Overview

The competition gives participants a taste of what it’s like to work at KPMG in Canada. Participants will engage in a spotlight session focused on the CPA support provided by the firm. Working in teams, participants will tackle a real-world business problem through a business, digital, and CPA lens, receiving valuable feedback from industry professionals.

KPMG Ace the Case is ideal for students interested in pursuing a career in audit, tax, or advisory at KPMG.
Winners of the local competition will be invited to the national competition in Toronto, where teams will present their solutions to a panel of KPMG leaders.

Team Composition

Students can apply individually, and if selected, they will be grouped into teams meeting the following criteria:

  • Four to six students per team
  • Teams should be composed of individuals with diverse gender identities
  • Teams will include a mix of STEM students, business students, and/or students aiming to achieve their CPA designation
Prize Information
Winning teams may receive prizes such as KPMG swag, scholarships, a trip to Toronto, and a guaranteed interview for an open role at KPMG in a future recruitment cycle!
Participant Eligibility

To participate in KPMG Ace the Case 2025, applicants must:

  • Be enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Not be currently employed by KPMG or hold a future-dated offer
  • Be planning to pursue a career at KPMG
  • Be in the first to third year of an undergraduate business or STEM program
Applications Open: November 13, 2024

You can submit your application on KPMG’s website. Submissions must include your resume and your most recent transcript (not required for first years). All applications must be received no later than January 12th, 2025. If you are selected for the competition, you will be contacted within two weeks of the application deadline.


Please note that we DO NOT require a cover letter for this application process.

The CPABC Case Competition is a business strategy case competition with two competition rounds. The Top 8 teams from the First Round will be invited to the Final Round including an evening reception to network with CPA members across BC.

Prizes: The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of $2000 and invited to a CPABC Mentor/Mentee Networking Event. The second placed team will receive a cash prize of $1000 and the third placed team will receive a cash prize of $500.

Teams: This competition is open to BC and Yukon post-secondary students only. There are no limits on the number of teams from each school. Teams of four must have at least two students who are in their 1st or 2nd year of studies, and teams of three must have at least one student who is in their 1st or 2nd year of studies. Students of all disciplines are invited to participate, no prior experience is required. Team registrations only. Individual registrations not accepted. No formal overview of the CPA program will be given during the session. Registrants are asked to watch a pre-recorded overview of the CPA program before attending the session. January 11 12:00pm – 1:00pm Post-Secondary CPABC Information Session Online Are you a post-secondary student interested in becoming a CPA after you graduate? This session will cover the CPA program in detail and include an open Q&A with CPABC’s Senior Student Recruitment Officer. This session will be tailored to post-secondary students interested in becoming a CPA, and is open to students from any university or college program.
January 24 12:00pm – 1:00pm CPA’s Journey – Life After Designation (Public Practice) Online CPA’s Journey features real-life CPAs and candidates of the CPA program who work in various sectors. In this webinar, our three panelists who work in public practice will talk about their CPA journey as well as life after obtaining the CPA designation. Click here for more panelist information.
January 25 5:00pm – 5:45pm Conversation with a CPA Online Join this short 45-minute conversation and listen to a real-life CPA and learn about what accountants do and where they work. You will then have an opportunity to ask your own questions about a career in accounting. Featured speaker: Betty Mak, CPA, CA, Director of Tax, Maxar Technologies. Betty is currently overseeing income tax compliance, supporting tax accounting and responsible for other tax projects including cash tax projections and tax support for M&A activities.
January 31 12:00pm – 1:00pm CPABC Network Series ‘Meet and Mingle’ Online Join us and network with some of CPABC’s best Candidate and Member Ambassadors! Candidate Ambassadors are individuals who are currently enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program, while our Member Ambassadors are CPAs. This event includes rotating networking rooms so audience members may ask their questions and receive answers, guidance, tips and advice on a variety of topics and interests, such as employment, career paths, education, interviewing skills and more.
