This resource is intended to provide nature lovers as well as students, instructors, and scientists with tools for exploring and sharing discoveries about local plants, algae, and fungi.  In these pages you will find tips for documenting, collecting, identifying, as well as sharing with the public and scientific community.  Instructions for preparation and submission of specimens to the UBC Herbarium are provided.

So much to investigate as we wander through forests, along rock bluffs, and edges of the sea shore.   Our curiosity drives us to try to make sense of the biodiversity in our world….and to share our discoveries.  Here in Vancouver, we are grateful to have the opportunity to explore the unceded, traditional, and ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Watuth), Stó:lō, and Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nations of the Coast Salish peoples.

This site was developed by the Dept. of Botany and the UBC Herbarium.  It was funded by a Skylight Development Grant, Faculty of Science, University of British Columbia.
