Collecting Permits

Collecting permits

Research permits must be secured prior to collecting herbarium specimens from National and Provincial parks and ecological reserves, and some other land jurisdictions in British Columbia. It can take up to six months or longer for permits to be approved, particularly if the location of the proposed research is within a land claims area, it involves other agencies, or if Parks personnel would provide field support.

Please note: The UBC Herbarium requires that copies of research permits be included with submissions of voucher specimens.

The following links contain information concerning the governing legislation, processes, and timelines associated with research permit applications. Please check with the local jurisdiction prior to collecting specimens from protected areas in BC.
