Papers and Studying… I’ll take a rain check, its sunny outside.

As the semester draws to a close and the spectacular spring/summer weather keeps creeping in, it gets harder and harder to remain inside and stay focused. Studying on those gorgeous sunny days can seem impossible at times. With only few left of exams and papers, summer vacation is right around the corner. But we have to remember that it is still a few weeks away, so here are a few ways to take advantage of the great weather today:

  1. Take a break from studying inside, grab your books and a blanket and study outside for an hour. The sun activates a chemical reaction in your skin that creates vitamin D, strengthening bones and building stronger hair.
  2. Gets your daily dose of exercise outside, screw going to the over-crowded bird coop. Hit the pavement and go for a run or bike ride around campus. If you’re looking for a great place to run, my favorite routes from Gage are down to Spanish banks (the beach) or through the endowment lands with the sun shining into the forest. Getting some exercise as a study break has been proven to increase blood flow and help concentration, so take small breaks and do something active… outside.
  3. Study with a group of friends and take 10 minute breaks every hour to go outside and soak in the sun. Separating your study time allows your brain to absorb more and be more effective. When heading outside take an ultimate Frisbee, a hackie sack, or even make some paper airplanes and have a competition to see who can throw theirs the farthest.
