Online Learning Plans

Section 2: Online Learning Plans

One of the defining aspects of how education in BC is to be held from September, 2020, will be the reliance on and implementation of online learning plans. With each grade, and in each school, the ability for students to access and work with material online varies substantially. Classes may have an expectation of completing a certain amount of learning online, while others may leave everything completely optional, and there is a great deal of middle ground.

In lower grades, computer literacy may not yet be at the point where word processing and digital interfacing are expected from the students. Activities that are distributed online, but can be completed by the students away from the computer, are attractive to families that wish to limit screen time for their children. They are also more accessible for students without much computer experience.

Here are some recent non-tech online learning plans. These were used for a grade 3 class that up until now has not had any word processing or typing done in school.

Generally, the students can view these learning plans either in a web browser, a reader, or printed form. They can create their work, photograph it, and send the images to their teacher.

In the next section, we’ll examine some online learning tools I’ve created, and discuss various ways to make them available.
