Released in 2001, with over 200 million accounts created, Runescape is one of the most popular fantasy based multiplayer game created by Jagex. Ever since its creation, Runescape has been thriving everyday, with accounts being created constantly, one after another. Who knew that most of these accounts were not “actual” players playing the game?

In the gaming industry, people have figured out infamous tactics to rack up in-game currency to sell to other players for real life currency. This is known as Gold Farming. There are two different types of gold farming. There are those who actually play the game but for the purpose of making profits. In mainland China, over 100,000 people have resulted to gold farming due to such a lucrative industry. Runescape has been one of the top games flooded with controlled bots programmed to play the game for a player. This is the catch. Jagex has taken action by implementing methods to stop bots from inflating the game’s market. However, it is believed that Jagex is not removing all of the bots to the best of their potential. Bots is one of the main resources to their profit. So, the question is, will Jagex risk their profit to remove bots to the best of their abilities to create a better atmosphere for players?
