Orientation 2018

EDST and the GAAs extend a warm welcome to all students joining our department in September 2018!

We are excited to contribute to our EDST’s orientation programme this year, in collaboration with our department’s faculty and staff members. The programme line-up is designed to acquaint new students to our department, prepare them for a successful academic year, and foster a sense of community. Some events are also designed to supplement those offered by other departments or units at UBC.

You are invited to consult the following calendar for a full list of orientation activities organised and hosted by EDST. Some events organised outside of EDST may also be listed, and you will be directed to the organiser’s page accordingly. For a full listing of orientation activities organised outside of EDST, please consult UBC Graduate Student Orientation.

REGISTRATION
The registration deadline has already passed. If you have already registered, look out for our confirmation email on September 1. We look forward to seeing you at the orientation events!

In the first part of our meeting, get to know your peers, and have your questions answered as you settle down to your new journey at UBC. Then, we are delighted to have Dr. Michael Marker (Associate Professor in EDST and coordinator of the Ts’‘kel Program) join us and share his insights into our place as residents and scholars on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-speaking Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm) people.
N.B.: To help us prepare for this session, participants are requested to send us your questions for the Q&A session one week before the gathering. We will provide more instructions in our confirmation email after you register.
N.B. (II): While this event is organised for international students, new and current domestic (both local and out-of-province) students are also welcome to join us for this gathering!
