ugly bike cageCalling all artists and cycling enthusiasts! We need your help to animate our campus bike cages.

The challenge is open to all current UBC students, staff and faculty with a prize of $500.

The objective is to create a design and paint a mural that covers the entire wall in the AERL bike cage – approximately 34 feet by 11 feet (please see photos of the space below). This year’s theme is “cycling and climate change.” Subsequent years and themes will include health, community and safety.

Submit your design through the online form by Monday, March 14th at 12pm.

During the Ripple Effect Campaign running March 14th to 19th, a short list of contest proposals will be displayed and the campus community will weigh in on the best proposal for this mural.

A panel of judges comprised of staff and students from Campus and Community Planning, University Sustainability Initiative (USI) and the AMS Bike Co-op will then weight the submissions with the community feedback and select the final winner.

The winning design will be painted and displayed on the bike cage wall. The winning team will receive a cash prize of $500 upon completion of the mural and the opportunity to sign your work.
