On Thursday, the Office of the Senate and Undergraduate Admissions teams officially welcomed the Student Service and Advising and Student Communications Services teams to the 2nd floor of Brock Hall. After the Integrated Renewal Plan team moved out of Brock Hall in February, the remaining Enrolment Services teams moved in so that the entirety of Enrolment Services was assembled in one building.

The welcome began with a light breakfast with an abundance of healthy options including Greek yogurt and honey granola, chia pudding with berry compote, an assortment of Danishes, fruit bars, and a classic fruit tray. Light refreshments were provided along the hallway.

In the weeks leading up to the welcome brunch, Enrolment Services Advisor Max Mitchell sent out an email inviting new and old staff of the 2nd floor to fill out a survey. During the welcome, Max unveiled an interactive map of the 2nd floor with the information collected from the survey, which he created with his colleague Brian Fukushima from Senate. We learned many fun facts including that Emily in SCS has read the first book in the Harry Potter series 23 times, ESA Brian likes to make things (sometimes), and that I do indeed write short stories.

After demonstrating how fun facts can be used as conversation starters, the staff were given time to mix and mingle between the departments. Faces were matched with Skype ID’s. New and exciting things were learned about the roles of different positions. At the end of the mingling were more formal presentations from members of each department to showcase what their roles and responsibilities were.

The Office of the Senate provided background on what they actually do. Alexis Watts from Undergraduate Admissions presented a Powerpoint to introduce the department and explain more about the various roles within the department. Student Support and Advising’s Joshua Robertson painted a comprehensive picture of their department by using audience participation and a hypothetical coniferous tree. And last but not least, Student Communications Services presented a short The Office-themed introductory video of their team.

2nd Seating Map and Staff Profiles

For anyone on the 2nd floor of Brock Hall who has not yet submitted their survey response, it is still possible to submit your response through the survey form. Max will be checking submissions and updating the site on a weekly basis from here on out. The map can be found in the menu of ES Connected under ES Staff Info.

Basement Seating Map and Staff Profiles

Next month, we’ll publish a survey for the staff in the basement, and create a map of where the SFS and SRSM staff are located.
