As a place where students can meet, talk, study, and use “borrowed” equipment, the Modern Learning Commons brings together the functions of libraries, labs, lounges, and seminar areas in a single community gathering place.

I had to vote for this one since I have spent the last two years changing our high school library into a learning commons (a work in progress still). Think of it as a place, physical and virtual, where modern librarians connect you with the learning resources that you need, be it on the web, in print, or with people.
Modern Learning Commons as the modern library just sounds right, a convivial space for global learners. What goes into the making of it?
I seem to have somehow acquired the responsibility of establishing a learning commons at our school – a place to seek extra help, find resources, establish connections with the community, work on independent projects, etc. It will be interesting to see how this evolves and if the concept is embraced by students.
I have been working with learning commons for the last 3 years and it is not only an area where students go to study, seek assistance and resources, form study groups and most importantly, it has become an area of socializing between the students. It has proven to be successful in providing students more instructor support from the classroom.
