13 Lenses – Advanced Practice in Photography
13 Lenses, an exhibition showcasing photography by the Advanced Practice in Photography class at UBCO, pays homage to 13 Cameras, Vancouver, a photobook published by the National Film Board in 1979. This collection featured renowned artists like Roy Kiyooka, Paul Wong, IAN BAXTER&, and Barrie Jones, among others.
13 Cameras, Vancouver always resonated with me as a symbol of a particularly diverse photographic community within a specific geographical and historical context. In uniting our exhibition, the class chose to highlight the unique approaches and material choices that best represented their individual projects. Over four and a half decades after the publication of 13 Cameras, our exhibit aims to demonstrate how the landscape of photography has evolved, yet the sense of photographic community has remained steadfast.
