Teaching Journal Jan 6, 2014
Most of my students don’t bring paper to class anymore! I should bring paper (and another other tools that I expect them to use).
When I asked them to do a one-minute-paper-like activity to introduce themselves on my first class of the term. More than one-third of the students raised their hands and asked for paper. This clearly wasn’t an issue just two or three years ago when I started teaching. Anyway, I learned that I shouldn’t make any assumption.
By the way, questions I’ve asked this year.
- What are your favourite foods?
- What do you want to learn about foods?
- What is your expected final grade? Why?
- What question do you have for me?
- A fact about yourself (on your academic, extracurricular, social, family, personal, etc. I won’t share what you share.)
