Teaching Journal Jan 6, 2014

Most of my students don’t bring paper to class anymore! I should bring paper (and another other tools that I expect them to use).

When I asked them to do a one-minute-paper-like activity to introduce themselves on my first class of the term. More than one-third of the students raised their hands and asked for paper. This clearly wasn’t an issue just two or three years ago when I started teaching. Anyway, I learned that I shouldn’t make any assumption.

By the way, questions I’ve asked this year.

  1. What are your favourite foods?
  2. What do you want to learn about foods?
  3. What is your expected final grade? Why?
  4. What question do you have for me?
  5. A fact about yourself (on your academic, extracurricular, social, family, personal, etc. I won’t share what you share.)
