Sprouts Event to Support LFS Student Group – Food for Thought. Come Check it out!

On March 14th Sprouts will be selling bowls made by the pottery club to support Food for Thought. Food For Thought is a student run initiative that works to implement nutrition workshops in elementary schools. They believe in the importance of providing children with the tools needed to make health conscious decisions when it comes to eating. By purchasing a bowl and meal from Sprouts you will be supporting this great cause.

A Growing Culture’s Student Writing Contest – submissions due March 7, 2014

Here is an opportunity for young writers  and farmers to get their articles published in an international sustainable agriculture resource library. Deadline for submissions 
is this Friday, March 7! Interested students must write a 1,200-word (maximum) essay on either a farming technique, op-ed, or a farm profile for a chance to win up to $150, be exposed to a broad readership, and even get published!

We have extended the deadline for scholarships for the Summer 2014 session of the Critical Studies on Food in Italy (CSFI) program in Rome, Italy. Scholarship applications are now due on March 7, 2014.

Brief description of the program

DURATION: 5-WEEK Full Immersion Summer Program

WHEN: 19 MAY 2014 – 21 JUNE 2014

WHERE: ROME, ITALY

The program is open to all majors, University of Massachusetts Amherst and non-University of Massachusetts Amherst students.

$2000 scholarship for food science students – Due Apr 25th

If you will be entering 2nd or 3rd year in food science in September 2014, then you may be eligible for a $2000 scholarship from The Western Association of Food and Drug Officials (WAFDO). Applications are due April 25th, 2014.
