Volunteer Call-Out for Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC) – deadline Feb 25, 2017

Applications are now open for students to volunteer for the 2017 Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC), which will be happening from March 23 to 25, 2017. As you may already know, MURC is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students as it provides them a platform to showcase their research with their peers across different faculties.

MURC volunteers are integral to the success of this conference. Volunteers are given the opportunity to network with other student leaders and all the great research that is happening on campus. Volunteers will be supported by the MURC Committee and UBC Centre for Student Involvement and Careers Staff. Volunteer tasks include the following:

  • Assisting with any pre-conference preparations such as organizing name tags, preparing conference programs etc.
  • Assisting in the check-in of conference presenters and delegates
  • Assisting in the set-up and clean-up of spaces used for the conference
  • Providing assistance to conference presenters
  • Representing both UBC and the MURC team in a professional manner
  • Providing any other logistical assistance as required

2016 T4’s for UBC Employees

2016 T4 information for students & others employed by the university:

  • On-line T4’s are now available on-line in Self-Service to view and print.
  • Printed T4s:
    • For employees who selected to receive printed T4s, printed copies will be delivered/mailed the week of Feb 20th
    • Active employees will have printed T4s delivered to their departments.
    • Terminated/retired employees will have T4s mailed to the home address on record in HRMS Self-Service.
    • Anyone selecting to receive a printed T4 also has the option to access it on-line in Self-Service.

North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Teaching Award of Merit – deadline Feb 20, 2017

We are now accepting nomination for the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Teaching Award of Merit. Among the criteria taken into consideration will be sustained teaching excellence, the ability to motivate students and stimulate critical thinking, and development of innovative approaches to teaching methodology and curricula.

UBC LFS faculty members, including lecturers and sessional lecturers, appointed for a minimum of three years in any of the Faculty’s programs are eligible to be nominated for the prize. NACTA Award and Killam Teaching Prize recipients http://www.landfood.ubc.ca/teaching/teaching-awards/ within the last six years may not be nominated.

Nominations are made by a letter of nomination from students, alumni and/or faculty including reasons for nominating this candidate, and one or more examples of her/his excellent teaching practices.
