RESEARCH QUESTION:
How are lung cancer mortality rates associated with environmental and socioeconomic factors across the eastern United States?
To address this research question, we conducted a hot spot analysis to visualize existing geographic patterns in the distribution of several variables deemed relevant to lung cancer incidence and mortality. Then, we performed an exploratory regression to determine which explanatory variables should be included in our regression models. Ordinary least squares regression and geographically weighted regression were conducted in order to observe the geographic patterns of associations between explanatory and independent variables.
