Taking My Students to a Physics Teaching Conference
On Saturday, October 13th, five of my students and I drove to Bellingham, Washington to attend a Washington Section AAPT Conference. I have posted my feedback about the conference here. It was a very special event and I felt that in some way I am repaying a “debt” of more than 12 years ago. Then I was a graduate student and the last thing I thought I would do is attending a conference… However, I had colleagues who convinced me to do that and as a result we all drove to Texas A&M University (I was a student at UT Austin then) to attend a Texas Section Meeting of AAPT. This meeting made me so interested and inspired that I joined not only TX section of AAPT, but also the larger organization. I was so happy to see that the students enjoyed the conference and were able to see what a vibrant community we have. Tomorrow, a number of my students and I will be attending the Pro-D day organized by BCAPT, TRIUMF and BCScTA. I hope it will be a successful event as well. Meanwhile, I am happy I can help other people feel welcome in the Physics Education community.
