From Your Inbox: Term 1 Academic Review + Term 2 Advising

Dear DAP Students,

We hope this email finds you well! As we look to 2026, we’d like to share some information with you about Term 2.

  • Term 2 Course Planning
  • Academic Advising
  • Student Supports Over the Winter Break

Term 2 Course Planning
Your final grades will be available on Workday in the upcoming weeks. Please keep the following in mind as you review your grades and prepare for Term 2:

  • In early January, the Office of Student Academic Services will review the academic progress of all DAP students, and we will connect with you during the first week of classes if your Term 1 average fell below 55% or if you failed a course. We will have academic advising and resources specific to students in these situations.
  • You can find details on progression and continuation requirements here on myUBCDAP
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you have met any course requirements for your registered Term 2 courses, including all co-requisites and prerequisites. You will find co-requisites and prerequisites for a course on the Curriculum page on myUBCDAP or on Workday when you look up a course.
  • Note that the last day of the add/drop period is Friday, January 16.

Academic Advising and Office Hours
OSAS will close on Wednesday, December 24 at 1:00pm and will re-open on Friday, January 2, 2026. Academic advising appointments will be available from Monday, January 5, 2026. Information on how to schedule an appointment can be found here: Program Advising – myUBCDAP.

One of our January goals is to support students who have questions or concerns directly related to Term 2 before the add/drop deadline of January 16, 2026. If you have questions that do not require immediate attention (e.g., long-term course planning), then we ask that you book an appointment for after January 16, when we resume regular advising appointments. We genuinely appreciate your help in making the add/drop period as efficient as possible.

Student Supports Over the Winter Break
Many offices at UBC will also be closed or have reduced hours over the break. If you are looking for student supports, please visit students.ubc.ca/2025-student-service-holiday-hours/.

We wish you a safe and restful winter break and look forward to seeing you in January!

Sincerely,

OSAS Academic Advising Team

Midterm FAQs and Resources

We hope you are off to a good start this term! This message includes information about your midterm schedule, the academic concession policy, and academic integrity during exams. All exams follow UBC policies and regulations—make sure you are prepared and understand your responsibilities before you write your exam.

  • When are my midterms?
  • What happens if I have a midterm conflict?
  • What should I do if I am unable to write my midterm?
  • What do I need to know about Academic Integrity?
  • Are there other recommendations I should follow?
  • Where can I find mental health and wellness supports?

When are my midterms?
Review your course outlines for midterm times and locations. If you are unclear about the exam arrangements for your course, contact your instructor as soon as possible.

What should I do if I am unable to write my midterm?
If you are unable to write an exam due to circumstances that are included in the UBC Academic Concession policy, you may be eligible to submit a petition for an academic concession.

  1. Consult your course syllabus for any instructions provided by your instructor.
  2. Review information on submitting a petition for an academic concession at https://blogs.ubc.ca/myubcdap/success/responsibilities/#section-1.
  3. Submit your petition to OSAS by filling out the form on https://professional.sauder.ubc.ca/dap/students/academic-concession.cfm . You are expected to submit your petition as soon as possible and within 48 hours of the missed midterm.

What do I need to know about academic integrity?
All Commerce exams start with an Integrity Pledge. Academic integrity will be enforced in all exams. By writing a UBC exam, you agree to adhere to the University’s standards for academic honesty. It is your responsibility to review and abide by the rules described in the following sources:

Suspected instances of academic misconduct will be thoroughly investigated and are subject to disciplinary measures. More information about the academic integrity practices, procedures, and resources to support students at UBC Sauder can be found in the Student Academic Integrity Handbook.

Are there other recommendations I should follow?

  • Get to your midterm exam early!
  • Bring your digital or physical UBC card to your midterm.
  • Double-check the course syllabus or ask your instructor what items are allowed in the midterm.
  • If you are writing exams on Canvas, do the Online Exam Tech Check (https://canvas.ubc.ca/enroll/RK33KJ).
  • Read all instructions and questions carefully.
  • Keep track of the time and don’t forget to submit the exam when finished.
  • If you sit your exam, you are no longer eligible to defer it or to submit a petition for academic concession for it. You will not be given another opportunity to increase your mark. Review the academic concession policy for details.

Where can I find mental health and wellness supports?
In addition to studying, maintaining your physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing is essential to achieving success. We encourage you to take advantage of the many resources available at students.ubc.ca/health

Update from CPA: New Professional Program

The CPA Profession in Canada is updating the CPA certification program to align with Competency Map 2.0. On September 16th, the CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) shared information on the new program, the CPA Professional Program (CPP), which includes a refresh of both the education and work experience requirements, which you can find here: Introducing the CPA Professional Program.

As a DAP student, we anticipate that you are currently working toward completing the requirements for admission to the CPA program. Please note that January 2027 will be the last opportunity to start the current CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) and be eligible to write the final offering of the Common Final Exam (CFE) in September 2028. To start PEP in January 2027, you must meet all current CPA PEP admission requirements by the end of December 2026.

Students who begin the CPA program after this date will need to be admitted to the new CPA Professional Program (CPP).

For help planning your remaining DAP courses, please feel free to connect with our office: Program Advising – myUBCDAP.

If you have questions about the CPA PEP or CPP, please contact CPAWSB at admissionadvising@cpawsbc.ca.
